4/13/05 - Radford,VA; BT's

this was a long day. started out w/ 6 hour drive from athens and ended w/ a 2 hour drive to charlottesville,va and an arrival of 4am. but after an 8 hour rest i feel great. this show was a typical college bar show. i had to get all the delicate tunes out of the way early while people were filing in and sober. once the 2nd set started the drunk level went up and i had to rock out for every tune. of course i don't mind that. but just like every drunk crowd there is always that person who gets drunk enough to let you know what a great performer they are. "no really ... i'm great". rule of thumb folks ... if you have to tell someone how good you are then you aren't in the first place. this person on this night was named julie(a nice girl when sober i'm sure). after every song she felt the need to come up and tell me how good she was and that she was playing this weekend and she should sing w/ me ... even though she knew none of my songs she claimed to be a quick learner. i know some exceptional musicians and none of them are that quick. and neither was she. anyway after a long rant over the mic and several songs later julie felt the need to "try" to sing backup on my last song. it sounded like an emu in heat or worse yet one that was being strangled. all in all a full house of people who ended up really diggin' the tunes. so to julie i say ... keep singing and maybe try a keg less of beer and you should do just fine.

set I: the first third, long ago, don't mind the key, miles high, deep, not at all, 'tis true, blue, horizon, it must be you, any other day

set II: tangled up in blue, torch, comin' round > elegance, halo, nature > escape, solid reason, melee, worry, downstream, don't hide, let go, i believe, come clean, monkey & the engineer, the same, west of the mississippi, my angel, balance, travel on, am i here, arkansas, gone all wrong, slow burn, drop
